Random linguistic observation #137: in American English, depending on the tone, expression and posture with which it’s delivered, the word “yeah” can mean any of:

  • That is correct.
  • I approve.
  • I don’t care.
  • I am skeptical.
  • I wasn’t listening.
  • I agree to your proposal.
  • I require additional information.
  • I support you in this undertaking.
  • I didn’t tell you because I thought it was obvious.
  • I recognise the truth of your words, but fail to see their relevance.
  • I am a sapient jug of fruit punch.

Degrees of secondhand fandom:

  • I don’t watch/read/listen to it, but I follow the summaries on the wiki
  • I rarely pursue information about it, but I have enough incidental contact with the core fandom that I’ve picked it up via osmosis
  • I strive to avoid it, but I’ve been indoctrinated against my will by the fucking memes
  • I can cite the canon chapter and verse, but I have no recollection of how or why I acquired this knowledge, and that concerns me

educating-antis:

Real talk though this is a PSA going out to both antis, shaladins and everyone else with no malicious nature intended whatsoever bc honestly it’s depressing seeing some klancers getting so depressed about this when there’s legit no need to. I’m gonna spread some wisdom and knowledge so you’ll stop beating yourselves up over some irrelevant shit.

It doesn’t matter what the ages are in canon. Shipping isn’t canon. Shipping doesn’t need to rely on canon. Shipping can be completely separate from canon.

That’s literally the reason shipping was originally invented; to go off on tangents from canon and explore things that weren’t and never would be included in canon. It doesn’t matter if Keith is 18 in canon, if you want to view him as younger and ship him with Lance you can do; that’s why fanon exists. It same goes for any of the other ships. You don’t have to abide by canon in fanon ships, that’s the point of them.

Stop this weird rhetoric that’s appeared in the past few years that fanon ships have to rely on canon and have to be true to canon. It doesn’t make any sense and completely washes over the entire reason shipping was invented in the first place.

It doesn’t matter how old Keith is in canon.

It doesn’t matter how old Shiro is in canon.

It doesn’t matter how old any of the characters are in canon.

Shipping isn’t canon.
