zookmurnig:

So, here’s a Sukkot story my rabbi shared with us.

A Jewish man living in New York City built his sukkah a couple days ahead of Sukkot, to be ready. He lived in an apartment building, though, so he had to build it on the roof. His landlord went up as he was putting on the final touches, and when he saw the structure, he went ballistic. “That’s not allowed in the lease! Take it down immediately or I’m gonna have to kick you out.” The Jewish man cited his right to religious freedom and that it’s a part of his culture and religion. The landlord wouldn’t hear it. He took his tenant to court the next day, and after hearing both sides’ arguments, the judge announced his ruling. “I’m sorry, but your landlord is right, sir. You have ten days to take down the structure.” And the Jewish man smiled and went home to his sukkah for the holiday.
