saw atomic blonde by myself in a theatre of hets in the middle of the night and let me just say watching THE lesbian in the film get brutally murdered in one of the most violent ways i’ve ever seen onscreen really um what’s the word traumatized me for life

yeah uh i saw this movie just cos I heard it was gay and was really not expecting the ingenue lesbian get strangled by a man in her own bed while half-naked it was Unfun

so sounds like this movie is a no for me

Though, the love interest was supposedly a guy, who would also die. I’m all for boycotting media that /actively/ participates in the BYG trope – but this one character was always meant to die, whether a het or not. Please don’t take it too far and support this film.

This character was a man in the comics and died too. They didn’t kill her just because she was a lesbian. And her death made narrative sense in a spy movie. Of course I wanted her to live but this movie is still hella progressive and they made the effort to make our lead a bisexual woman who kicks ass rather than having it be straight and her previous white male love interest died too.

I think as a community we really need to focus on the circumstances in which a character dies instead of just the fact that they die. I understand if it triggers you, then definitely don’t see the movie. But it is still good rep. And it’s important for movies like this to do well. It shows that movies with female leads and queer leads can succeed. Even in a traditionally male genre.

I think the point being missed in these last two comments is that while the character was always meant to die in the narrative, the advertising for the movie itself – meant to garner interest in people not familiar with the comics – indicated a Queer love interest.

The big problem with that is Queer audience members not knowing what to expect being yet again blindsided by the unfortunate BYG trope. The circumstances of the character’s death in-canon is an important factor, but consider also the important factor of the external lives of the people viewing this media. We were promised representation, but once again it came at the price of death. Like we can’t be seen on screen unless we’re being made an example of in some manner. It’s exhausting, and honestly I’m done with supporting media based off one merit (eg. Female Lead) when there are yet still so many unconscionable flaws.

6 zoo myths that arent true

Most behaviors that you see keepers demonstrate at the zoo or aquarium are natural behaviors that the animals do in the wild. When the animals do them, the keepers give them a treat and pair it with a gesture or a word, so that they associate them, and eventually the word or gesture is enough to elicit the behavior because the animal knows that there’s a reward. But here’s the thing: most of those behaviors are encouraged because they help veterinarians and keepers do health checks.

Yeah, its cute when they nose boop the stick, but also keepers need to check their vision and depth perception and mobility. Sea lions are so cute when they wave! But vets and keepers need to check under those flippers to make sure that they’re healthy and that they don’t have any restrictions on their motion or cuts on their skin. Why do they ask animals to jump? Again, to make sure that they’re healthy, and also because its fun and animals LOVE to move around and jump and have fun, its mentally stimulating. 

This is the most important thing I will ever reblog and anyone who is still ignorant enough to think zoos are awful can fuck off my blog. Zoos are necessary. If you think otherwise please unfollow me because I don’t want you here.

This is super important for people to see. I have worked at a zoo and I can not tell you how many times I’ve had to defend the zoo for the good they do. People need to learn that zoos are actually helping save endangered species.

Remember: Sea World is not a zoo and doesn’t really care about animals unless they can make a profit. Fuck Sea World.

Alternatively, Busch Gardens does care for their animals.
