It’s so funny hearing the drama that happens in my home town like holy shit a good christian came out of the closet and is now the shame of the church and they’re arguing on facebook but they’re not allowed to swear so it’s like this 200 comment argument thats super polite and he’s just sassing his way through it because he knows who the pedophiles in the community are and is like “Y’all better shush now ;)” and I’m screaming

So I live in England but I’m originally from this fairly conservative religious town in the Netherlands. While people aren’t really openly homophobic and the community overall is quite friendly, it’s probably not the best place to spread your gay ass and flaunt your pride around.
My family still lives in this town and my mom is kind of in everyone’s business because she works for town management and the town’s pr team (it’s a very touristic place because of all the tulips). But yeah, mom is very involved and knows everyone that is even remotely relevant in town.
This leads us to our brave gay boy. Gay boy is 21 years old and part of an extreme form of religious community within our town. I wouldn’t call it a cult but it’s kind of borderline at that point.
He finally came to terms with being gay (we all knew but that’s ok take your time) and came out to his blissfully unaware parents. His parents felt and the entire religious community they were in felt that they were being very accepting. I mean, he was allowed to be gay as long as he acted straight and didn’t get a boyfriend, what else do you want?
But brave little gay wanted
So some shit went down and he had a huge fight with his parents who basically told him “There’s the door. Goodbye.” Now the Netherlands isn’t that big of a country and things like this spread pretty quickly so within no time, he was contacted by one of the biggest gay magazines in the countries for an interview. Of course he gladly told his story.
Now the religious community wasn’t exactly happy that he did that. They felt that he was being unfair to his parents who were so loving and accepting. The entire community jumped to their defense because “We know his parents very well and they’re kind people who wouldn’t do anyone harm.”
Now our town has two Facebook groups in which people can talk about current events in town. The original one is the one we all rebelled against because it’s being led by the super religious dictator who kicked off all admins and deletes everything he doesn’t like. He’s also been super sexist to my mom so out of spite she and a few others made another group for people who aren’t in danger of getting a heart attack when someone says the word “fuck”.
Anyway, our brave little gay had a short interview on tv with one of our most famous gays and of course the religious community didn’t like this either. They posted it to the first group and the sexist dictator didn’t like that. So after it had been posted 6 times he declared that anyone who posted it would be banned from the group.
So they start posting it in the other group where nothing gets deleted.
Suddenly all of the religious cult-not-cult started joining the group just to bash our brave little gay on the post. But they’re not allowed to swear in their community so they were all being super polite. Meanwhile our brave little gay was casually sassing all of them for being complete fucking idiots.
For example, another gay man in the community said that he was very freely and openly gay himself and that our brave little gay is being overdramatic. To which our brave little gay responded “Ok so you say you’re out and proud but you’re not actually a practicing-gay” and I’m still here reflecting on the term practicing-gay but anyway.
So for about 150 comments everyone goes back and forth while my mom is in the background talking to our brave little gay advising him as the good PR person she is. But meanwhile she’s getting all the details which of course I then get to know because who the fuck am I going to tell?
So it turns out that the entire religious community is super afraid of our brave little gay. Not because he’s gay but because he knows things. Apparently this entire community is filled with pedophiles who have been “forgiven” by the lord and were never prosecuted. Our brave little gay knows exactly who these people are and can basically point them out to whoever wants to know, which the community isn’t happy with because they gotta protect their child molesters but not their gay people.
And that’s about everything I know about what’s going on right now. Our brave little gay is trying to get a job in television and he’s a make up artist and he’s doing his own thing now living in the big city so from what I heard he’s doing well. I wish him the best.
