Why are single apartments so expensive here???

but if I try to stay here I need a pay raise or a second job
but that requires job hunting and I haaaaate job hunting
on the one hand I can look out of area for cheaper
or I keep staying with the folks but I can't do that forever (I guess I could pay them rent too...)
so that's more job hunting >:/
