Turns out people really like me waffling about Narnia on Twitter.

So here’s a more hopeful spin on Susan Pevensie. (From the author’s pen to your eyeballs.)

i’ve heard this before, and it makes me very happy. i didn’t know it when i was younger, so i grew up real pissed off about susan’s absence from narnia. it never seemed fair that susan should be so disdained for turning away from narnia, when aslan hadn’t given her very good reasons to love him, much less trust him— the christian emphasis on faith has always tended to weird me the fuck out. knowing it’s more about susan’s different path to maturity has made it sting a little less, though the deaths of all of the other friends of narnia seem that much more tragic.

like, how are the other pevensies adults? they’re dead. your spiritual journey isn’t fucking complete before you graduate university because you really really believe in god enough to die for him! you’re just dead! like maybe it’s an allegory for the rapture, maybe it’s just about going to heaven, but it feels more like a reiteration of a very different warning: kids that drink the fairy kool-aide pay for it with their lives.
