Have we discussed PTA Mom! Lady Sybil Ramkin-Vimes? Because I don’t think we’ve discussed it enough.
#naturally Sam is also very invested in Young Sam’s education but all this PTA stuff makes his head spin#Sybil on the other hand is 100% in her element there#she brings (rather poorly) homemade baked goods to every meeting#and is usually the one patching over the fights rather than the one starting them#but there is a LINE. and when someone crosses that line…#it happens when Young Sam is struggling in school and someone suggests (under the guise of sympathy of course)#that perhaps he’d be doing better if his father were more involved#and Sybil#kind soft unassuming Sybil who tries so hard with those muffins#somehow manages to wrench what seems like an extra foot of height out of her ramrod spine#“Oh his father is quite involved /actually/”#she says#“You must just get a bad impression because you haven’t met him. Why don’t I bring him along to the next meeting so that you can?#I’m sure he’d be delighted.”#or someone suggests that perhaps Young Sam’s “breeding” makes him unsuitable for the prestigious school he attends#and Sybil just smiles and nods and STARTS ANOTHER DAMN SCHOOL#one that doesn’t use the term “breeding” in reference to human beings#let alone treat it as some sort of qualification#funds for the school are raised via a letter-writing campaign that the Disc has never before seen the likes of#students are brought in from all over the city but somehow the focus seems to be on kids from the Shades#or Quarry Lane or Cockbill Street#the misfits and the misbegotten#Carrot turns up to rally the kids into football games#Detritus holds school assemblies for his “Jus’ say ‘AarrghaarrghpleeassennononoUGH” campaign#CHEERY HAS AN AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM TO HELP GIRLS GET INTO STEM#and sometimes- sometimes- they somehow manage to pull old Sam “Stoneface” Vimes in to do storytime for the younguns#LET ME HAVE THIS OK (via OP)
